The four phases of onboarding are preboarding, orientation, training and integration. Preboarding covers paperwork and setup before day one. Orientation introduces the company, people and culture. Training builds the role-specific skills and tools. Integration is the longer stretch in which the person takes on real work, receives feedback and becomes a full contributor, often reviewed at 90 days.
Orientation: This phase introduces the new hire to the company, its culture, and its values. It includes providing an overview of the company’s mission, vision, and organizational structure.
Training: During this phase, the new hire learns the specific skills and knowledge necessary for their role. This includes job-specific training and understanding the tools and processes they will use.
Integration: The new hire begins to integrate into the company and its workflows. This involves getting familiar with team dynamics, participating in projects, and starting to contribute to the company’s goals.
Assessment: In this final phase, the new hire’s performance is evaluated to ensure they are meeting expectations. Feedback is provided, and any necessary adjustments to their role or training are made to support their success.
